Pinecones pluck, clay pots crackle, Mardi Gras beads sparkle, Transformer toys squeak, sugar packets crunch. Linda Jankowska and Katherine Young weave an electro-acoustic soundworld using these and other objects with personal significance. Working together from 2014-2023 to collaboratively compose the four movements of boundarymind, Jankowska and Young recorded, emulated, and amplified objects collected from their childhood homes. They selected the objects for the memories they encouraged them to share with each other, as well as their sonic potential, and thus embedded their friendship-forming process into the music. Jankowska and Young presented the premiere installation and performance of boundarymind in June 2022 at 6018 North in Chicago in a co-production with Experimental Sound Studio.
The album also features the playful and poignant string trio "bow, breath, crow" performed by Jankowska and Distractfold.
Accompanying the release and available to stream here is Kera MacKenzie’s energetically surreal film created for boundarymind’s third movement.
